Colonial Downs, located in New Kent, Virginia, is the state’s first pari-mutuel racetrack. Reminiscent of Virginia’s classic colonial mansions, Colonial Downs features a dual breed one-and-one-fourth mile dirt oval. The racetrack features Harness racing’s only one turn mile course. The turf course is one of the world’s finest and earns praise from jockeys, trainers and owners alike. It features North America’s widest course at “180 feet” with 20 rail movements. Short was responsible for Colonial Downs’ impressive design, development and management of construction. |

As Vice President, he employed, trained and supervised all departments to ensure consistent performance of the $62 million facility. In addition, Short developed and maintained supportive relationships with members of the racing commission, horsemen, news media, staff, and most importantly, patrons. |
